USE & CARE FOR PORTABLES

FOR PROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE CORNINGWARE PORTABLES:

Use the size CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish provided and only the hot/cold pack included.

The plastic lid MUST be used on the CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish when placed in the carrier.

Leave the covered dish in the zipped carrying case, until you are ready to serve the food.

To avoid food spoilage, cold food MUST be thoroughly chilled to 40°F (4.4°C) or colder when placed into the carrier. Allow adequate time after food preparation to chill properly.

To avoid food spoilage, hot foods MUST be prepared properly in the CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish.

The “Keep Cool/Keep Warm” time of the CORNINGWARE Portables can be reduced if: Hot food is placed or left in heated area (e.g., direct sunlight, hot vehicle, near wood stove, etc.). -OR - Cold food is placed or left in cold area (e.g., unheated vehicle in cold weather, etc.).

If foods are transported in carrier longer than two (2) hours, hot foods may need to be reheated. Re-chilling cold foods, which have spoiled, will not make them safe to eat.

Foods NOT heated or chilled in the CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish may not retain the appropriate serving temperature. Examples: Grilled Hamburgers, Fried Chicken, Cold Sandwiches

USAGE:
Use CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware in microwave, convection, or preheated conventional oven; it can go directly from the refrigerator or freezer to the oven. DO NOT use on stovetop or under broiler.

Use a dish that fits the food quantity. Avoid heating small amount of food in a large dish.

CARE:
CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware may be washed by hand or in an automatic dishwasher. Load carefully to avoid stoneware-to-stoneware contact and bumping against other items during cycle. Place plastic lids on top rack only or wash by hand.

To loosen baked-on food, allow stoneware ovenware to cool.  DO NOT allow stoneware cookware to soak/stand in water for an extended period of time. Applied heat after soaking may cause glaze crazing. If scouring is necessary, use only plastic or nylon cleaning pads with non-abrasive cleansers.

WARNINGS:
Failure to follow these instructions for CORNINGWARE Portables stoneware ovenware can cause immediate or later breakage which can result in personal injury or property damage.

NEVER USE ON TOP OF STOVE, under a broiler, under a microwave browning element, in a toaster oven, on or near any direct heat source such as range heat vents, open flames, etc.1

AVOID SEVERE TEMPERATURE CHANGES. DO NOT add liquid to a hot dish, place hot dish or lid in sink or immerse in water.

NEVER place hot stoneware ovenware on cold or wet surfaces. Handle hot stoneware ovenware with a dry cloth or potholder.2

DO NOT overheat oil or butter in microwave. Use minimum amount of cooking time.

DO NOT use a CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware item to pop popcorn, caramelize sugar, or deep fat fry in a microwave oven. This can cause chipping or breakage.

DO NOT use harsh cleansers, scouring pads, or any object that will scratch the stoneware ovenware.

DO NOT use or repair any item that is chipped, cracked, or noticeably scratched. Damaged items may break without warning.

1 THROW AWAY any CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware item mistreated in this manner.

2 Sudden cooling can cause breakage.

The best results will be achieved when the Safety and Usage Instructions below are followed. Food temperature may be affected by how quickly the transfer of the dish and pack into the carrier is accomplished.

HOT FOODS:
Prepare and bake or microwave hot foods in your CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish. Four to five minutes before your hot dish is ready to put in the carrier, HEAT the hot/cold pack in your microwave oven.

Refer to information printed on the hot/cold pack for microwave heating times.

Check manufacturer’s rating label on microwave or microwave oven Owner’s Manual for power rating. If unable to find the wattage rating or Owner’s Manual, call 1-800-999-3436. For microwaves greater than 1100 watts, closely follow microwave manufacturers’ suggestions for heating time adjustments. **Depending on your microwave model, the heating time may vary.

WITH CAUTION, USE POTHOLDERS to remove the hot/cold pack from the microwave.

DO NOT exceed the MAXIMUM heating times listed above. Overheating may cause the hot/cold pack to split or burst.

When the maximum time has elapsed, or the hot/cold pack starts to expand, TURN OFF the microwave. Use potholders to slide the hot/cold pack under the inside bottom flap of the carrying case.

Make sure hot/cold pack is placed in carrying case with the printed side up.

Hot foods should be at appropriate temperatures when placed into carrying case. As soon as possible, and no more than 1 to 2 minutes after removing CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish from oven or microwave, carefully put the plastic lid directly on the hot dish. IMMEDIATELY place dish in carrying case. Use the side zippers to close the bag.

The carrying case CANNOT be used in a microwave oven.

COLD FOODS:
Lay the hot/cold pack flat in your freezer. Freeze overnight (more than 8 hours). If your freezer temperature is 0°F (-12°C), the hot/cold pack may remain somewhat flexible. If the hot/cold pack becomes too stiff and does not fit in the inside pocket of the carrier, you may have to let it set for 1-2 minutes until it softens so that it is flexible.

Prepare and refrigerate or freeze cold foods in your CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish. Cold food must be thoroughly chilled to 40°F (4.4°C) or colder when placed into the carrying case. Allow adequate time after food preparation to chill properly.

Slide the hot/cold pack into the inside bottom pocket of the carrying case. Put the plastic lid on the CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish. IMMEDIATELY place the dish in the carrier. Use the side zippers to close the bag.

TRANSPORTATION:
Put carrying case straps together, wrap and secure with the hook and loop closure handle. Carrying case should be held/carried as level as possible.

Plastic lids are NOT airtight. Over-filled dishes or liquid from foods may leak. Use only the plastic lid for carrying. As with any covered dish, condensation may develop on the underside of the plastic lid. Remove lid with care. Do not put serving utensils inside carrier, this can cut or damage the interior. Place utensils in the outside side pocket. Do not drop or bump carrying case. You may break the CORNINGWARE stoneware ovenware dish inside.

CLEANING:
HOT/COLD PACK:
Clean with a sponge or cloth using soap and hot water. DO NOT place in washing machine, dishwasher, or dryer.

CARRYING CASE:
Hand wash only, wipe clean with damp sponge or cloth. No bleach. Hang to dry. Do not iron. To prevent mildew, make sure carrying case is completely dry.
